Last Saturday I received my long-awaited copy of “Honor Diaries” in DVD format in the mail. Ripping open the package I plopped Honor Diaries in my DVD player. An hour later the thought was running through my head, things are far, far, far worse than I thought.
Honor Diaries is the story of nine women who are human rights activists. They hail from a variety of backgrounds. There are Sikhs, Christians, Muslims and ex-Muslims who passionately are fighting the extreme misogyny of Islam. We meet Ayaan Hirsi Ali. She has personally undergone FGM, child marriage and death threats since she renounced Islam. The other side is dead earnest about killing apostates. Ms. Ali must have 24 hour per day protection from the fanatics who have vowed to kill her.
Honor Diaries speak candidly about female genital mutilation, honor killings, child marriages, rape, the beating of women, and the institutionalized degrading of women by the Islamic Law known as Sharia. I promise you will never meet braver women than these nine.
Plans are being made to show this 60 minute documentary around Arkansas during the coming months. If it comes within a 100 miles of your home please attend a showing. Everyone needs to be aware of the horrors against women being perpetuated in the name
